Edmodo is an application whose main objective is to allow communication between teachers and students. It was created for its specific use in education, which provides the teacher with a private and closed virtual environment in which messages, files, and links, and a classroom calendar can be shared. A safe space in which to create tasks, manage them and grade them.
It is available to the entire educational community for free.
What does it bring us?
- Create private groups with limited access to teachers, students and parents.
- Have a space for communication between the different roles through messages and alerts.
- Share various multimedia resources: files, links, videos, etc.
- Incorporate the contents of our blogs through syndication.
- Launch surveys to students.
- Assign tasks to students and manage their grades.
- Manage a class calendar.
- Create communities where all the teachers and students of our educational center can be grouped
- Give parents access to the groups in which their children are assigned, allowing them to be informed of their children's activity and have the possibility of communication with teachers.
- Award badges to students as prizes for their participation in the group; the possibility of creating evaluation questionnaires (under development).
- Manage files and share resources throughout the library.
- Create subgroups for facilitating the management of working groups.
- Have a public space where to show that group activity that the teacher deems appropriate.
- Preview of library documents.
- Access through mobile devices (iPhone, Android).
Advantages:
- Allows registration at all educational levels (primary, secondary, ...)
- It is designed specifically for education, which is reflected in the type of tools it offers.
- The teacher can propose activities that are carried out on the same platform. This activity allows its qualification in the same Edmodo.
- Allows you to create subgroups (eg subjects of a course)
- Fully translated into Spanish.
Disadvantages:
- It is a microblogging type network, focused on text, where new messages replace old ones.
- The absence of communication mechanisms means that it is not really a social network.
